Origins and history

The cultivation of "Pistacia Vera" is lost in the mists of time. Its very ancient origin is located in an area that includes Syria, Palestine and Turkmenistan.
In ancient times the pistachio was identified as a privileged fruit to be reserved for the royal family.
Known to Assyrians and Persians, in the Greek world of the third century. B.C. it was appreciated for its healing principles, and also included in the category of physical and sexual stimulants.
The plant arrived in Rome in 30 AD, as an exotic tree found in one of the countries of the empire.
The pistachio tree, a tangle of twisted and gnarled branches capable of clinging to the steepest slopes, blooms in April and offers the harvest between late August and early October. Its oil is used in cosmetics especially for its emollient qualities.
