Rooibos lemon and vanilla is a herbal tea based on the so-called African red tea that was designed with balance as a criterion, in fact the lemon is fresh and notoriously not sweet, rather sour, the vanilla is sweet and has an enveloping flavor that we could define as warm.

Characteristics of the infusion based on rooibos, lemon and vanilla

We did not use the so-called adjective by chance, if we want to be rigorous, rooibos is not a tea, because tea is only the infusions obtained from a specific plant called Camellia sinensis which is native to the Far East. Rooibos is instead obtained from a plant of the Fabaceae family (i.e. the same as legumes) called Aspalathus linearis which is native to the Cederberg, a region of South Africa near Cape Town. Having said that for the sake of accuracy, rooibos is an infusion like tea, which is prepared more or less the same way (some recommend letting it infuse for a little longer, up to ten minutes as opposed to the five minutes of tea), which has a similar but sweeter taste, so much so that it is not sweetened, with notes of earth and tobacco, which has similar characteristics in terms of antioxidant content but with the advantage of not containing caffeine.
Aspalathus appears as an evergreen bush, the word rooibos in Afrikaans means red bush, but if you look for a red bush you will never find it, the leaves are green and elongated (that means linearis). So why red? Because they become red with the fermentation which in the process of preparing rooibos (intended as a product) precedes drying and shredding. Lemon is a citrus fruit, the scientific name is Citrus × limon, that x indicates that the species is a hybrid, to be precise the lemon is a hybrid between a bitter orange and a citron. And think that even the bitter orange is a hybrid (in fact in the scientific name, Citrus × aurantium, you still find the x), between a pomelo and a mandarin. Surprised? Well, know that in the world there are about 200 species of the Citrus genus (i.e. citrus fruits) and they are all derived from successive crosses between just three original species: the mandarin, the pomelo and the citron. Like almost all citrus fruits, the lemon appears as a small tree and notoriously the yellow-skinned fruits are among all the citrus fruits commonly used in cooking those with the most sour flavor. Very rich in vitamin C, it also boasts notable antibacterial properties so much so that it is used in the preparation of disinfectants and cleaning products.
Vanilla is obtained from the fruits of an orchid native to Mexico whose scientific name is Vanilla planifolia. The flower has the shape of a pod, the name derives from the Spanish vaina which in turn derives from the Latin vagina which means sheath or pod. Like all members of the Vanilla genus and a large part of the Orchids, the vanilla plant is a climbing liana that grows on other trees that it uses as a support. Today the Mexican monopoly on vanilla production no longer exists, it has spread to other tropical areas such as Madagascar. The fruits are long pods, those sold in their natural state of the highest quality at least 15 centimeters, which are harvested when they are still green. In the confectionery food industry both natural vanilla and extract are used.
