The Rooibos orange and eucalyptus herbal tea thanks to the particularly refreshing taste given by the eucalyptus, seems like a flavored rooibos particularly suitable to be consumed cold, on the other hand considering the vitamin C content of the orange and the balsamic properties of the eucalyptus it also seems like a herbal tea made especially for the ailments of the winter months.
The ingredients of the infusion based on rooibos and orange with eucalyptus leaves
Rooibos is a false tea, it is also called "African red tea", after all it is an infusion that has a flavor similar to that of tea, only a little sweeter, essentially due to the lack of tannins and caffeine, the preparation for infusion is identical, only slightly longer, with real tea you must not exceed 5 minutes or it becomes bitter, with rooibos according to some you can even get to 10 minutes. The way to obtain the product from the plant is very similar: the leaves are fermented, then dried and finally chopped. So why do we call it false tea, because if we want to be rigorous, tea is only the infusion obtained from an Asian plant called Camellia sinensis, while rooibos is obtained from a plant of the Fabaceae family, native to South Africa, whose scientific name is Aspalathus linearis. It is an evergreen bush, linearis means that the green leaves are narrow and elongated. Rooibos is instead the common name of the plant in Afrikaans, the language of the Dutch colonizers (and also spoken by their slaves), it means "red bush". But how red? Aren't the leaves green? They turn red after fermentation and the product is reddish.
The orange is perhaps the most cultivated fruit in the world, originally from China and Southeast Asia, now it is widespread wherever there is a suitable climate, essentially: mild winters. It is no coincidence that among the world's largest producers we find Spain and Southern Italy in Europe and California and Florida in the USA. Like practically all citrus fruits, Citrus × sinensis, this is its scientific name, is a tree that is not very large, it can reach 12 meters (other citrus fruits tend to be even smaller).
The orange, in addition to being appreciated for its taste, is also renowned for its vitamin C content, a very important vitamin for the immune system. Eucalyptus is also a tree, or rather we should say eucalyptus, because all the species of the botanical genus Eucalyptus are eucalyptus, a whopping 700 species spread throughout Oceania and the Philippines.
However, in reality when we talk about eucalyptus we are usually referring to the species Eucalyptus globulus. This is a tree that does not grow very much if imported to us, but in Australia, its land of origin, it can reach 70 or 80 meters. Eucalyptus extract is very famous for its balsamic and expectorant properties, it is also attributed an antiviral activity, but this has not yet been confirmed by science, however there are no doubts about its balsamic properties, so much so that in addition to making balsamic sweets for the confectionery market, it is also widely used in the pharmaceutical field.
