A blend for an infusion that combines antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties ensured above all by rooibos and ginger with vitamins ensured by orange and blueberry. From an organoleptic point of view, rooibos, which has a flavor not very different from that of normal tea, is loaded with the sweetness ensured by blueberries, the citrus freshness of orange and the lemony but slightly spicy taste of ginger.

Characteristics of the ingredients in the infusion Rooibos, blueberry, orange and ginger.

Let's take a closer look at the components of this blend. Rooibos, also known as African red tea, is actually a false tea, as only infusions obtained from the Asian plant Camellia sinensis should be called tea, while rooibos is obtained from a plant native to the Cederberg region in South Africa called Aspalathus linearis. On the other hand, even if the two plants are not even related, the first is part of the Theaceae family and the second of the Fabaceae (or legumes), the method of treatment of the plant and that of preparation are similar, as is the taste which in the case of rooibos is described as having hints of tobacco. The properties ascribed to rooibos are similar to those ascribed to tea but with the advantage of not having the main source of concern, it does not contain caffeine. A curiosity: rooibos is an Afrikaans word meaning red bush, except that the red bush is not at all, the leaves become red with the fermentation that precedes the drying phase.
The blueberry is a so-called forest fruit, the European blackberry is the fruit of the species Vaccinium myrtillus while the American giant blueberry is the fruit of the species Vaccinium corymbosum, both belong to the Ericaceae family and the Vaccinium genus. Unless you go and pick it yourself, the blueberry you find on the market is the giant American species that has the same characteristics but is obviously much more profitable and therefore for industrial purposes that is also grown in Europe. The blueberry among other things is rich in vitamins A and C and also contains vitamin B to a lesser extent.
The orange, like all citrus fruits, is native to the Far East, now the Citrus × sinensis is one of the most cultivated fruits in the world because its cultivation has spread wherever there was a suitable climate, but in reality it spread in Europe only in the mid-1600s, even if centuries before it had been introduced by the Arabs in Spain and Sicily, Some curiosities about the name, the adjective sinensis means native to China, just like the tea plant mentioned above, while the x indicates that the fruit is a hybrid, in fact in reality almost all citrus fruits are hybrids derived from the crossing of only three original species, namely: citron, mandarin and pomelo. Oranges are proverbially rich in vitamin C. Ginger is obtained from the rhizome (the underground part of the plant stem that has changed and serves as a nutrient storage facility) of a plant whose scientific name is Zingiber officinale. We have already mentioned its flavor: slightly spicy with hints of lemon. As for its properties, ginger is attributed with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and even digestive properties.
