For those who love rich, full-bodied infusions, Cacao Chai offers an explosion of sweet flavors and a velvety texture. The full-bodied cocoa bean base, which releases an intense aroma, is enriched with spicy notes that add depth and liveliness. The perfect infusion to evoke Indian chai, with a twist that envelops the palate with smooth cocoa, leaving a satisfying and delicious flavor. This initial cocoa paradise is followed by spicy nuances ranging from the more intense orange, licorice, and fennel to the exotic cinnamon, ginger, pink pepper, and cardamom. The spices create a revitalizing and fruity flavor, thanks to the orange, which balances and enlivens the softness of the cocoa beans.

Blending the blend with milk, according to Indian custom, the drink acquires a unique depth, making it aromatic and powerful. It is considered a refined and indulgent version of chai, perfect at any time of day. Energizing in the morning and satiating in the afternoon, it becomes a pleasant treat in the evening.

What does cocoa chai contain?

Cocoa beans: Their intense, bitter flavor dominates the blend, with a hint of acidity that complements the spices. Beans are the whole, dried seeds of cocoa.

Cinnamon: It imparts a sweet, woody flavor, adding intense warmth, a unique aroma, and a few pungent notes to the chai. It comes from the Cinnamomum verum plant.

Fennel: Sweet and with a slightly bitter, pungent aftertaste, it creates an aromatic note that pairs well with the licorice. It comes from the Foeniculum vulgare plant.

Ginger: Its spicy touch and citrus aroma balance the sweeter spices. Derived from the rhizome (fleshy root) of the tropical plant Zingiber officinale. Orange pieces and peel: their citrusy, sweet flavor with slightly tart and bitter notes is perfect for balancing cocoa. Derived from the Citrus × sinensis plant. Licorice: Its sweet, balsamic flavor complements that of fennel, with slightly bitter notes. Derived from the root of the Glycyrrhiza glabra plant. Cardamom: Provides a warm, slightly pungent, and fruity flavor; an energetic aromatic profile with balsamic nuances. Derived from the Elettaria cardamomum plant, of the Zingiberaceae family, the same as ginger. Pink pepper: Provides a slight heat and a pungent, slightly bitter note; the resinous aroma complements cocoa. Fruit of the Schinus Molle plant, similar in shape to a peppercorn.

How to prepare cocoa chai

This infusion can be enjoyed by steeping it in hot water for a rich infusion. Alternatively, you can prepare it according to the Indian chai tradition, with a mixture of water and milk (2 cups water and 1 cup milk).

To infuse, we recommend boiling the water and then, when the temperature reaches approximately 90-95°C, add the cocoa chai blend. In a cup (about 250 ml), you can infuse 3 to 5 grams of the blend. Let steep for about 3-5 minutes (depending on your preferred strength) before drinking.

When following the Indian chai recipe, you need to pour 2 cups of water and the cocoa chai blend (in proportion to the water) into a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat on the stove and stir gently. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and stir again. After about 3-4 minutes, add 1 cup of milk.

Raise the heat and bring to a boil for the second time. Lower the heat to medium and simmer for about 5 minutes. Turn off the heat, strain the hot, spiced cocoa chai through a sieve, and pour it into mugs.

If desired, you can add brown sugar. You can also use plant-based milk, such as almond or cashew milk. To obtain a creamy chai, it's important that some of the liquid evaporates, creating a slightly thick drink.
