A blend of essential oils designed to relieve stress. This anti-stress essential oil can be used in the bath, in aromatherapy, added to massage oil and inhaled.
Essential oils that make up the blend
The blend is composed of essential oils obtained from the following plants: juniper (Juniperus communis), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), citrine sandalwood (Santalum album), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata), basil, oregano (Origanum vulgare).
The plants from which essential oils are obtained
The common juniper is a plant of the Cupressaceae family (which takes its name from the cypress) and of the sequoias. The juniper looks like a small tree or a perennial and evergreen shrub. Juniper has a very large circumpolar distribution, which means that it is spread only at high longitudes but uniformly over the entire globe.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit, the scientific name is Citrus bergamia, like most citrus fruits it is a hybrid (probably between lemon and bitter orange) and therefore you can find the scientific name also written like this: Citrus x bergamia. It is a small evergreen tree, not exceeding four meters. The place of origin is probably southern Italy.
The medicinal lavender or true lavender is a plant of the Lamiaceae family, the scientific name is Lavandula angustifolia, the term angustifolia indicates the most evident characteristic that distinguishes it from the numerous other species of lavender: narrow leaves. Lavender is native to the Mediterranean basin. Citrine sandalwood (Santalum album L.) is a small tropical tree of the Santalaceae family. The plant is native to India and Indonesia. It looks like a tree of between 4 and 9 meters in height. The bark can be brown or reddish, while the woody heart can be pale green or even white and the adjective album (white in Latin) refers to this. Ylang ylang is a medium-sized, fast-growing tree that belongs to the Annonaceae family, the scientific name is Cananga odorata. With a growth rate that can even reach 5 meters a year, it really quickly reaches 12, which is the usual maximum height. The distribution area includes Southeast Asia, Eastern Australia and even the Solomon Islands.
Basil is an annual herbaceous plant up to 60 cm tall, the scientific name is Ocimum basilicum and belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The leaves are lanceolate, sometimes blistered and of an intense green color (but there are varieties of other colors). It seems strange to say this given how much basil is now part of Italian cuisine but it is a plant native to India and in fact it is also used in all Asian cuisines. The common oregano (scientific name Origanum vulgare L.) is an aromatic perennial plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family, it reaches 70 cm in height, at the apex of the stem it ends with a panicle-shaped inflorescence. The corolla is white or pink.
Properties of the essential oils in the anti-stress blend
The juniper essential oil among its properties boasts the ability to relax the muscles. Bergamot essential oil in aromatherapy is used against stress and depression. Lavender essential oil is probably the most appreciated as a sedative and also for its pain-relieving properties, it would seem to have a mechanism of action similar to that of benzodiazepines. The sandalwood essential oil is appreciated above all for its anti-inflammatory properties but it also has a calming action. The ylang ylang essential oil boasts relaxing and antispasmodic properties that make it one of the most used in massages. Basil essential oil is used in aromatherapy for its ability to counteract anger and anxiety thanks to its calming properties. Oregano essential oil is one of those that have the most powerful disinfectant action, but it is also recommended in bath water for its ability to relax the muscles.
