Cardamom is a very fragrant spice obtained from a tropical plant native to India and Nepal, belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. The cardamom plant grows in regions with hot and humid climates and can even reach 20 meters in height. The most widespread variety is the one with the scientific name Elettaria cardamomum. In reality there are 3 different varieties. Green cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is the most prized variety and with a more intense flavor, coming from India.
