Spiced sugar: combinations to try
Have you ever tried spiced sugar? It’s an easy mix to make at home, perfect for adding an extra touch of flavour to herbal teas, infusions and baked goods – and much more besides. Let’s take a look at the best ways to use it.
How can you use spiced sugar?
As mentioned, spiced sugar can be used to enhance the flavour of hot and cold drinks, in baked goods, but you could also use it to add a touch of extra flavour to your breakfast, by adding it to your porridge, muesli or your favourite yoghurt.
How do you make spiced sugar?
The process is simpler than you might think. You’ll need airtight glass jars, your usual sugar and your favourite spices. Once you’ve poured the sugar into the jar, cover it with a layer of your chosen spice, seal the jar and leave it to rest for at least two weeks.
Alternatively, you can use the "quick method": simply blend the sugar with your chosen spice in a food processor.
Which spices should you use to flavour sugar?
There are countless options available, but the ones we definitely recommend you try are cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla and tonka beans, star anise, ginger and mint.
Not just spices
It’s true that spices are the focus of this post... but we’re making an exception to suggest some other combinations you might be curious to try.
