Water infused with cloves
Water infused with carnation flowers is believed to have several benefits, mainly related to digestive health. Let's find out what they are and how to prepare it.
Cloves are generally attributed with numerous properties that are beneficial to everyday wellbeing. In particular, their use in infusions is recommended as a home remedy for bloating and flatulence. Clove infusions appear to be a good aid to digestion.
How to prepare clove-infused water
Clove-infused water can be prepared either hot or cold. Let's look at both methods.
Hot infusion
For each cup, you will need 5 or 6 whole cloves. You have two options: boil them in a cup of water for at least 10 minutes, or leave them to infuse in water that has already been brought to the boil for twice as long.
Cold infusion
For cold infusion, you can use the same quantities, 5 or 6 cloves per cup of water, and leave them to infuse at room temperature for at least one night (or twelve hours).
Fermented clove water
To ferment the cloves, you will need to add an ingredient to the preparation: sugar. One tablespoon per litre of water and 7-10 cloves will suffice.
The mixture should be left to rest in a sterile container for at least 5-7 days.
Indications for use and contraindications of clove-infused water
Some claim that, in the absence of particular problems, you can drink up to two cups of clove-infused water, but be careful: always remember that moderation is essential and that natural remedies should not be considered miracle cures or substitutes for medical prescriptions.
They can be a useful aid when included in a balanced diet and combined with a healthy lifestyle. It should also be noted that this spice contains eugenol, so overdoing it could have the opposite effect to that desired.
