Spiced hazelnuts to nibble on: how are they made?

These days, we are starting to move towards more autumnal flavours...so we thought we would dedicate our post to one of the “queens of autumn”: the hazelnut. Today, let's see how to prepare fragrant and tasty spiced hazelnuts, to munch on as a snack, appetiser or treat after meals.

Tasty, delicious and easy to prepare! Caramelised hazelnuts with spices are an interesting variation on the classic praline recipe... the real problem will be not eating too many. The soft taste of roasted hazelnuts goes well with the aroma of various spices, in particular paprika, cinnamon, pepper, chilli and more.
Let's look at some of the possible combinations to try.

Spicy hazelnuts with pepper and paprika

A sweet and sour version, which also includes a pinch of salt. To prepare them, you will need:
200 g hazelnuts
1½ teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon paprika
ground pepper to taste (preferably coarse-ground)
1 pinch of salt.

The preparation is very simple: mix the hazelnuts, salt, spices and sugar in a glass bowl. Transfer to a non-stick frying pan and toast and caramelise for a few minutes over a low heat.

Spicy hazelnuts with thyme, smoked paprika and chipotle chilli

A truly unique and aromatic version that we found on Auntiechatter.com. We were intrigued by the unusual combination of flavours! Definitely worth trying. In this case, the sugar is replaced by honey and the roasting/caramelising takes place in the oven.

Roasted hazelnuts...for true spice lovers

A few practical tips before concluding, whether you choose to roast them in a pan or in the oven... don't forget the non-stick baking paper (in the first case, you will need it to cool the caramelised hazelnuts before eating them). If you choose to use the

If you choose to use honey instead of sugar, it is preferable to use the oven for toasting, but you can also prepare them in an air fryer. If you have prepared a large quantity, you can store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Please note, always remember to let them cool completely before closing the jar.
