Let's see how to make an iced latte with butterfly pea flowers.

Butterfly pea iced latte: ingredients and preparation

With just a few essential ingredients, your blue matcha iced latte (another name for the butterfly pea flower infusion) will be ready in just a few minutes.

Prepare (ingredients for two servings):

  • 1 tablespoon of butterfly pea flower powder (or dried flowers)
  • 2 cups of water 600 ml of milk (you can use either cow's milk or plant-based milk if your diet does not include animal products, but in this case, opt for a milk with a “neutral” taste, as butterfly pea flowers have a very delicate flavour).
  • Ice to taste
  • Natural sweetener of your choice

Method

Bring the water to the boil and add the butterfly pea flowers. Use an infuser if you have chosen whole flowers, otherwise you will need to strain the mixture once the infusion time is up for at least 5 minutes. Add sugar, honey or your favourite natural sweetener if desired.

While the infusion takes on colour and aroma, prepare the milk, which you will need to froth using an electric or manual milk frother (don't worry if you don't have one available, the end result will be “less frothy” but still excellent to drink; if you have time, you can also use a manual whisk). 
 
Pour the ice cubes and butterfly pea flower infusion into glasses (choose ones that are large enough) and top up with the frothed milk.

What to combine with butterfly pea infusion to give your iced latte more flavour

As we mentioned a few lines ago, butterfly pea flowers have a very delicate flavour, so if you want to give your iced latte an extra touch of flavour, you will need to choose an ingredient that does not overwhelm the final result, such as vanilla, rose or lavender water or syrup, or a few fresh or infused mint leaves (in moderation).
