International Hot & Spicy Food Day 2025: celebrating spicy food

International Hot & Spicy Food Day 2025: celebrating spicy food

In all likelihood, there is no cuisine in the world that does not include a touch of spice; for millennia now, we have been using spices out of necessity and for the sake of taste. Spices, precious commodities in the past and in some respects in the present, have travelled across the world, positively contaminating every gastronomic culture. It is perhaps for this reason that anniversaries and events such as International Hot and Spicy Food Day, which falls on 16 January each year, are dedicated to many of them.
From time to time we like to dedicate an in-depth look at national and international anniversaries that celebrate our beloved spices. In September, for example, we presented to you the National Chilli Day and related initiatives.

There is no agreement on the date when the first International Spicy and Hot Food Day was established, its birth can be placed between the late 1990s and early 2000s, the date of 16 January was instead made official in 2012.
How to celebrate International Spicy and Spicy Food Day

In our country there are currently no special initiatives....but nothing prevents us from doing it our own way and perhaps taking the opportunity to have some new taste experiences, so here are some ideas:

  • try a new spice
Find a recipe that intrigues you, with one or more spices that you have never tasted, and try it out
  • try dishes from other countries
What better occasion than the official spicy or spicy food day to try a new ethnic restaurant

  • challenge the scoville scale
Only for real spicy lovers and brave people ready to taste the hottest varieties

  • bring spices to your garden, balcony and kitchen
Treat yourself to a fresh chilli seedling, enrich your pantry and experiment with new combinations
