The banana plant, probably originally from South-East Asia, has spread over time in various territories, known since ancient times thanks to the expeditions of Alexander the Great to India (4th century BC). Today bananas are the most consumed fruit in the world together with apples, and they grow throughout the tropical area of the planet. The pineapple is native to the tropical areas of the American continent, famous among the peoples who found the plant in the wild. Its shape made it useful on a decorative level, while the goodness of the fruit was particularly appreciated by the Aztecs. The Spaniards discovered it and brought it to Europe, and later to the Orient. Today, pineapples like bananas are grown throughout the tropical belt of the world, and are readily available everywhere, being easily transportable fruits.

Plants and flowers

There are many components of the infusion, and the mix contains fruits and flowers of various origins.

The banana plant comes under different species, belonging to the Musaceae. Among the most widespread are the Musa balbisiana and the Musa acuminata. The plant prefers a warm tropical climate, and the stem reaches 7 meters in its wild form which is mainly found in the eastern territories. In Italy the fruit is grown in Sicily. The fruit represents a false berry, and does not contain seeds because it develops even without the flower having been fertilized. It is known for its conservation, as it ripens even after being separated from the plant - the ripening depends on the temperature.

Ananas comosus is a fruit plant of the Bromeliaceae family. It is not very tall, and grows best on well-drained soils, with excellent sun exposure, very slowly (even 2 years to reach full maturity). It develops purple, pink or red flowers, while the fruits have a shape that resembles a pine cone. They are formed from the flowers and berries of the plant, which combine to form a single fruit.
The Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is a highly branched herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family. Similar to a thistle, it is native to arid environments, where it survives thanks to its deep root and seasonal rains. It was used in ancient times as a substitute for saffron and is still grown today for the vegetable oil extracted from the seeds. The plants, 30 to 150 cm tall, show yellow, orange or red flowers.

The almond tree is the Prunus dulcis, belonging to the Rosaceae family. Originally from Asia, it is grown mainly in Mediterranean climates and in California. It reaches a height of up to 3-4 meters and is known for its beautiful light pink or white fragrant flowers. The almonds represent the edible seeds, while the fruit is a drupe similar to a peach. When it matures, the outer shell opens and gives the stone. Almonds are not nuts (dried fruit), but seeds enclosed in the hard fruit. Sweet almonds are the edible ones, derived from Prunus dulcis, variety dulcis, consumed as dried fruit in the kitchen, source of oil or almond flour.

The carrots derive from the Daucus carota plant, belonging to the Apiaceae family. It is one of the most common vegetables, of which the root is used in the kitchen. It has a green stem and fine leaves, and is widespread in Europe, Asia and North Africa.

The pistachio comes from the Pistacia vera plant, a small tree of the Anacardiaceae family. It is grown in arid soils, in warm or temperate climates. The nut of the plant shows a greenish stone under the shell, enclosed in a thin adherent reddish peel. The edible kernels, shelled and peeled, give the pleasant flavor we know.

The Rose is a plant of the Rosaceae family, famous for its fragrant flowers. Most of the species are native to Asia, and are numerous. There are over three hundred species and thousands of cultivars, and it can come in the form of upright or climbing shrubs. Depending on the variety, the flowers change shape, size and color - from white to yellow and red, even with dark and intense shades (such as crimson rose).

Calendula officinalis is a herbaceous plant that grows to about 70 centimeters. Its yellow-orange flowers, for which it is also called fiorrancio, are known for their beneficial and soothing cosmetic properties.

The date palm is the Phoenix dactylifera, it belongs to the Arecaceae (Palmae) family. Its roots are very developed, to recover water in depth in the driest territories, growing up to 30 meters. Dates are very nutritious palm berries. The large clusters of red fruit turn brown as they ripen, appearing only after the palm's eighth year of life. Dried dates undergo a drying process already known in antiquity.
